Shocking Accident.
Mr W. Carman Killed by Lightning.
(From our own Correspondent.) Masterton, Saturday. On Friday afternoon last, about ten minutes past four o’clock, at Masterton, a most violent thunderstorm broke over tho town. The day bad been awfully close and hot, and as the clouds began to darken it was easily noticeable that “ thunder was in the Heavens I " It appears that Mr David Carman, with his son, was engaged at the Manaia crowning a stack of corn, and were hurrying with their work so as to keep tho rain from penetrating the stack when a flash of lightning struck both persons. The son was rendered unconscious, and on recovering his senses was horror-stricken to find his father iyi.ig by lus side quit, lifeless. Mr Carman was one of the largest grain-gr ovrs in Masterton, and his painfully sudden amt untimely death has cast quite a gloom over th. town. He was very highly respected, and leaves u wife and family to mourn their irreparable loss. In th ir sad bereavement they have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole of Masterton.
