Monday, November 6(h. The ordinary meeting of the above Council wa> held on Monday evening. PnmDt : Hk Worship the Mayor (Mr.). Vile. Crs Dawson. Tosswill, Birnie, Burrows, Briggs, Stevens, Yule. FINANCIAL. The Treasurer reported an overdraft at i Bank of X4H4 18s 2d. SPECIAL ORDER. The special order making rate for loan , for Mangat&inoka bridge was confirmed. 1 CORRESPONDENCE. From Wairnrapn District Hospital ! Board notifying forthcoming election of members to Boanl —Resolved that tin* i Mayor and Chairman of the County ! Council lie elected to represent the district i j on the Board. ! From Constable Cooper r, porting that Ihe considered Mrs Stannard hail no claim on the Charitable Aid Board, she being only a recent arrival from \\ oodville.— | Received. From J. H. The name of Ann Dawson was substii tuted for that of W. W. McCardle on rate i roll. MR I.RKIiOKY's REQUEST. Mr J. Gregory waited on the Council and a>ked for access to his sections in Tndor road and King street. He and anotln-r ratepayer were* prepared to contribute X*2otowards of work, which the engineer reported wouid cost X*H9. STANDARD st KV E\ . Cr r l'os.>will asked what had been done about the standard survey. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to X 22 5s 4d were passed for payment. GENERAL. Cr Tosswill moved That tlx* assistant Surrey or-Gcneral l>c requested to have
the standard survey of the Borough completed as soon as possible. Seconded by Cr Dawson and carried. The Mayor moved That the engineer be directed to put in kerbing in front of Mr Williams’ section, three chains on Main road and one chain on Palmerston North street. Tlie cost of this would ho borne by the owner. Seconded by Cr Burrows. Cr Briggs asked what authority the Mayor had for stating the cost would be borne by the owner. The Mayor said the footpath had been made yrati*, therefore they could charge for the kerbing, ns they were entitled to charge for half cost of forming footpath. After discussion the motion was carried work to be done when building is completed. For—Crs Dawson, Briggs. Tosswill, Yule, Burrows and the Mayor; against—Crs Htevcns and Birnie. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by’ Cr Burrows, it was decided that the engineer be asked to supply the levels for footpath at once. Cr Birnie moved: That the request of Mr Gregory* re King Street be acceded to at an expenditure not exceeding X‘4s, X*2o to be deposited by ratepayers. Seconded by Mr Tosswill and carried. NIGHTSOIL CONTRACT. Tlie matter of Mr Taggart’s agreement was then gone into. Cr Tosswill moved : That tenders be called for removal of nightsoil for two years from December Ist, nightsoil to be removed from public school free of charge. Tenders to be in by 20th November inst. Seconded by Cr Briggs. Cr Stevens though a charge should be made for the school work and the school committee helped in another way. Discussion followed and the resolution was eventually carried. The conditions of the contract were then dealt with. Cr Burrows moved: That notice be given that all rates unpaid after 14 days' notice be sued for. Seconded by Cr Stevens and carried. The matter of a dereliction of duty on the part of S. Naylor, contractor for the Borough carting, was brought up and several Crs advocated the cancelling of the contract. Cr Briggs moved That the Clerk w rite to S. Naylor that if he does not fulfil his contract carts will bo engaged when required, the costs charged against him and sued for. Seconded by Cr Dawson and carried. Cr Tosswill moved: That the Clerk ho authorised to have platform in Council Chambers altered at a cost not to exceed 15s. Seconded by Cr Burrows and carried, j Cr Dawson moved : That the Council , table be filled in at a cost not to exceed 15s. Seconded by Cr Tosswill and carried. The Council then adjourned.
