The Taranaki Herald says:—Except from personal experiences it is difficult to realise the terrible state of the roads throughout the county. The following incident, which occurred on the main road between town and Inglewood, will help to show their deplorable condition. A settler was observed with a garden rake fishing in a mud-hole, and on being questioned explained that the previous evening his bullocks had been bogged in the hole, and had to be unyoked to release them ; he was now searching for the yoke and bows which had been embedded somewhere in the mud.
