LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE INVERCARGILL, June 21. _ Uiere were small yardings in all sections at the Lorneville stock sale to-day, and the enect of this was that the market tor fat cattle and fat sheep showed a slight improvement on the poor quotations of last week. GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows:— Oats.—Very few samples are now arriving from the country, and for these there is a weaker demand, except for A Grade, which are still inquired lor by shippers at 2s Ud per bushel, on trucks. Millers are now heavily stocked and are showing little interest. For shipment, B Grade are worth 2s 8d on trucks, with undergrades rather difficult to dispose of at up to 2s Cd, on trucks. Fowl wheat is in amply supply and store stocks are moving out slowly at from 4s 3d to 5s per bushel, ex store, according to quality. Chaff. —Consignments have come to hand more freely during the last week or two and local feeders are well supplied. The demand is only for good quality, which is selling; at £4 10s per ton, ex truck, with up to £5 obtainable in small quantities, ex store.

potatoes. —There has been a steady shipping demand which lias more than compensated for the comparatively poor demand for the local trade, and during the last week the market has firmed considerably. Current value is £6 per ton. ex truck, for good tables. Fair quantities are held in local stores on account of merchants, but indications point to these being mostly required for July shipment. CANTERBURY MARKETS CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. Owing to the heavy shipments of the past three weeks the demand fiT)m the North Island for potatoes has eased. The Port Waikato lifted 3000 sacks from Timaru, and is now loading at Lyttelton. The Waipiata took 2350 sacks from Bluff, and is now loading at’ Dunedin, to call later at Timaru and Lyttelton. The Waimarino follows a few days later. Prompt and June delivery to-day are quoted at £6 7s 6d to £6 10s; July, £6 12s 6d; and July-September, £7 ss; no -buyers for the last-mentioned months. *To growers prompts are quoted at £5 5s to £5 10s, and Julys £5 10s to £5 15s, according to the proximity of stations. Onions have practically dropped out of the picture ami a definite price is not easy to state. The crop is cleaned up. Fowl wheat remains at 4s 9d, f.o.b. A little milling wheat is coming forward, but very little, except that untlireshed is in farmers’ hands. The oats market is lifeless. : ADDINGTON STOCK SALE CHRISTCHURCH, June 22. Smaller entries were general at the Addington market to-day, except in the fat sheep section, which comprised the largest offering of the winter. There was an easing again in fat sheep and fat cattle values. A new record low level for heavy bullocks was reached. Store Sheep.—There was a bigger entry than last week, with no quotable alteration in values. Good ewe lambs made to 10s 3d; medium ewe, to 8s sd; ordinary store, 4s 8d to 6s sd; extra good two-tooth half bred ewes, to 18s 3d; good six and , eight-tooth three-quarterbred, to Ils 9d; good four-year-olds, to Ils 3d; soundmouthed, 4s 4d to 6s; medium four and six-tooth halfbr.ee! wethers, 9s 10d to 10s; ordinary six and eight-tooth halfbred, to 7s 9d. Fat Lambs.—-The entry comprised 2600 head, and the schedule rates of 4Ad for firsts to 3jd for seconds were maintained, although there was inclined to be an easier-tendency for seconds. The market, was not promising. Values were;—Extra prime heavy, to 19s Id; prime, 14s to 16s 6d; medium, Ils to 13s 6d: light, 9s 6d to 10s fid; store, 7s 6d to 9s. Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of 6500 head, and' the quality was generally better than at recent markets. There was a slight easing in values amounting' to about 6d per head for wethers, and 6d to Is per head for ewes. Exporters operated extensively. Values were:--Extra prime heavy wethers, to 20s 7d; prime' heavy. 15s to 17s; medium-weighr prime; 12s' 6d to 14s 6d; ordinary, 10s to 12s; light, 6s 9d to 9s 9d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 14s 10d; prime heavy, 9s 9d to 12s 6d; medium-weight prime, 7s 6d to 9s fid; ordinary, 5s 6d to 6s 9d: light. 4s to 5s 3d. Fat Cattle. —In the entry of 255 head. Southland was represented by one or two large lines. The smallness of entry did not cause an advance in values, the market being disappointing. Best beef made from 20s to 22s per 1001 b; good, 17s to 19s; ordinary. 13s to 16s 6d; inferior, down to Bs. Values were:—Extra prime heavy steers, to £lO 7s 6d; prime heavy, £7 to £9; prime medium-weight, £5 5s to £7 10s; ordinary quality, £3 10s to £5; light, to £3 ss; extra prime heifers, to £9 7s 6d; medium, £3 to £5; prime, £5 5s to £7 ss; light, to £3; extra prime cows to £6 17s 6d; prime, £4 10s to £6; medium. £2 15s to £4; light, £1 to £2 ss. The entry of fat pigs was smaller than at the last market, and the demand was good. Values were: —Choppers, 30s to £4 16s; baconers, 47s 6d to 58s fid; heavy. 60s 6d to 74s 6d; average price per lb, 5d to sjd; porkers. 24s 6d to 30s; heavy. 22s to 31s; average price per lb, 5-’.d to fid.

SOUTHLAND MARKETS INVERCARGILL, June 25. Oats.- —For some little time there has been a cessation of business, orders being by no means as considerable as during the last two or three months. This, however. is almost entirely due to the fact that in the meantime at least the millers have secured sufficient oats to carry on for some time. Trade in the north has been moie or less spasmodic and buyers seem rather to be making an attempt to force market rates down, but notwithstanding this, local prices are firm at previous rates. A grade 3s Bd, B grade 3s 4d, f.0.b., s.i.. while heavy-weight oats. 421 b to 441 b. which are hardly B's. on account of colour, have been sold in excess 6f B grade parity on trucks, country stations, or ex s'ore. Stocks of grade oats are distinctly in very small compass especially when one considers that local merchants have to depend on these for requirements for local sown down. Potatoes.—Business with the north, more especially Auckland, is still maintained on the basis of £6 7s 6d per ton. f.0.b., s.i.. for fair average quality table. As demand still holds good it seems apparent that these are meeting with the acceptance of buyers. It is anticipated that a bigger area will be put down in potatoes next year. Ryegrass.—Little business with northern centres has taken place for some time, and it is not anticipated there will be any movement until the near approach of spring. The bulk of seed is undoubtedly now in merchants’ hands and this to some extent is responsible for the kick of movement. Chcwings Fescue and Crested Dogstail are much in the same position, though in the former occasional orders are still coming to hand from overseas. Values between merchants for internal trade are - for Chcwings Fescue from sjd to 6d per lb. the higher price being for prime quality seed suitable for export trade, while in so far as Crested Dogstail is concerned so little has been saved this season that it is somewhat difficult to state any actual value, though nominally this is in the vicinity of 5d lb for seed dressed if such quality' would be suitable for export. The stock market during the past week has been very quiet with reduced yardings in all sections. Fat cattle are hardly offering so freely, the bulk of those coming to hand being young unfinished bullocks and cows of indifferent quality for which, notwithstanding the smaller yardings, very little improvement in values is shown. The sheep supplies have also been smaller, but with the freezing schedule drop the market is very slack. The fat lambs offering also show a falling off, and with the cold, wet weather the end of the season is now in sight. Both the store sheep ami store cattle markets are practically lifeless. Fat Cattle.—Prime heavy bullocks, £5 10s to £7; medium bullocks, £3 10s to £4 10s; prime heavy heifers, £4 to £5 10s; medium heifers! £3 to £3 15s; prime heavy cows. £3 15s to £5; medium cows, £2 to £2 15s. Fat Sheep.—Prime heavy wethers. 14s to 15s 6d; medium wethers, 10s to Ils 6d; prime heavy ewes. 8g to 9s 6d; medium ewes. 5s to 6s 6d; prime heavy lambs. 13s 6d to 15s; medium lambs, 10s 6d to Ils 6d. OAMARU MARKETS OAMARU, June 24. A few additional lines of wheat came on the market during the ■week, and practically all the wheat has now been disposed of. On account of the importation of wheat, millers have stopped

taking in any further lines. A few potatoes have been offering, but many have been badly cracked. Good table potatoes have been bought at £6 and others at £5. No cow grass has so far come on the market. The stock market has been very quiet lately, and during the past week no private sales were transacted. FRUIT AND PRODUCE WORLD
