RATE ON ADVANCES HALF PER CENT. REDUCTION. WELLINGTON, April 9. A statement is expected very soon from the Associated Banks expressing the willingness of these institutions to adjust their rates according to the Government’s general plan for reducing costs, including fixed charges As announced by the Minister of Finance (Mr W. D. Stewart) in the House this week the Associated Banks have been in close touch with the Government over this question with a view to making the reduction an all-round one, bringing in bank rates and deposit rates generally. It is now understood that the banks have agreed to reduce the bank rate on advances' by J per cent.
