On a rocky face fronting the promenade on the Island of Jersey is a marble receptacle to catch water that seeps down at one particular place. Upon the marble slab, Mr J. M. Lightfoot told the Blenheim Rotary Club the other day, are the words in bold lettering: “Mixed bathing and free drinks”—and’ in smaller characters—“ for birds only.”
