DUNEDIN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Horticultural Society was attended by Messrs G. A. Skene (in the chair), J. Nelson, H. T. Trevena. J. T. Gray. G. Attwood, W. Thom. S. D. Macdonald. J. Fleming, F. S. Perrett. W. Blackburn, J. H. Vickers. A. G. Rigby, J. B. Downes, F. H. Hollingworth, J. Miller, J. Mahoney. M. Scott, Mrs J. Rodger, Mrs A. G. Rigby, Miss A. M’lntyre, and Miss A. Cable. The president stated that since the last meeting the society had lost one of its life members in the person of Mr D. Larnaeh. who had been secretary for a period of 11 years, and had done good work in the interests of the society. He moved a resolution of sympathy with the relatives. The Canterbury Horticultural Society wrote thanking the society for the loan of vases, without which it would not have been able to accommodate all the exhibits. Messrs C. H. Moir (Christchurch) and B. S. Andrews (Timaru) wrote stating that they would be exhibiting gladioli and dahlias respectively at the society’s forthcoming show. The president stated that Messrs H. Bennett and Sons had kindly consented to exhibit the collection of native plants, with which they had won the Loder Cup at the Canterbury jubilee show, at the society’s show on February 24 and 25. The members expressed their great appreciation of Messrs Bennetts’ kindness in giving the public this last opportunity of seeing this wonderful collection of over 800 plants, as it was their intention shortly to break up the collection, and it was decided to allocate the centre of the Pioneers’ Hall for the exhibit, so that there would be plenty of space for the public to view the plants. It was decided to send letters of congratulation to Messrs Bennett and Miss A. M’kntyre and Mrs Orr Campbell upon their success in the competitions at the Canterbury jubilee show. Mr Downes reported that he had been successful in obtaining an orchestra to play at the forthcoming show. The president reported that the Early Settlers’ Hall had been engaged, in addition to the two Pioneers’ Halls, for the autumn show, as it was expected this would be the largest show the society had held.
