“We know of eight charges of false pretences yvhich in all probability will he laid,” said the chief detective in the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch on Thursday morning, referring to Rudolph Benjamin, a salesman, aged 43, who was charged with converting a motor car to his own use and with stealing, on December 1, at Invercargill, a washing machine valued at £46 10s, the property of Gough, Gough, and Hamer, Ltd. The accused w-as remanded to appear on December 17.
