"You take one handle, and I’ll take the other," whispered Kitty, “and come quickly! They'll be upstairs again in a minute! ” “I’m with you," said Mr Pip, seizing a handle. “This is worth all the old gliding in the world.” And when they ifKd the tub of water at the head of the stairs, Kitty got on with her plan. “Wonder why those young scamps didn’t come down last time,” said Peter, when he and Patty were climbing the stairs once more. “ Up to some mischief, I expect," replied Patty. She was right.
Then Peter and Patty arrived on the landing again, and all four trays were arranged in a row. " Got the string? ” hissed Kitty to Pip when they were ready to start. “Yes! ” Mr Pip hissed back, just like a real conspirator. Away they went! Mr Pip pulled the string—-which clever Kitty had tied to the tub handle—and away went the water too! With a splash ami a gurgle it chased the “gliders" down the stairs and gave them a thorough soaking. “The water chute!" sang Mr Pip. “Hurrah for the water-chute! Better fun than ordinary tray sliding, isn’t Peter and Patty, who were sitting miserably in a puddle, didn’t think so.
“Whatever is all this mess, you naughty children?” It was Nanny’s voice, and Nanny was very cross! "What Lave you been up to now?” she went on. “I’ll ” “Please, Nanny,” Patty began meekly, “it wasn’t ” “No stories, please," interrupted the angry Nanny. “Off you go to bed! I Won’t listen to any excuses bread and water for supper —and I’ll tell your father when he comes home—oh, what a mess! ” “Sorry!” whispered Kitty and Mr Pip. creeping in beside Peter and Patty. "We’ll come to bed. too! It was all our fault—but we thought it would be fun.” Then Nanny appeared again—and she was still very cross You must guess the end of the story!
