The September-October issue of the New Zealand Railways Magazine makes interesting reading, and is well illustrated. Its articles include “Mr Goodseat,” “ Gipsies of the Railroad,” “ Retirement of Chief Engineer,” “ Pictures of New Zealand Life,” “ A Scenic Bush Railway,” “ Safety Education,” “ The Waiho in Flood,” and “ World Affairs.”

The October number of Everylady’s Journal is supplemented with some exquisite spring patterns for milady’s wardrobe and a lesson on how to knit a puff-sleeved jumper. Short stories, a serial, and such special articles as “ Looking Through Your Teapot,” “ Fancy Work for Dainty Fingers,” and “ The Latest News from Fashion Land ” help to complete a pleasing issue.

Among the special articles in the October issue of Life are “ The Lure of Gold,” by A. J. Bolton; “ Science and Crime Detection,” by Henry T. Rhodes; and “ Adventures in Spinifex Land,” by Francis Birtles. Captain P. C. Wren, Will Scott, Ariton Eadie, Roland Pertwee, Lynn Doyle, and Albert Richard Wetjen contribute interesting fiction. The magazine is fully illustrated.

The articles in the September issue ot the Strand Magazine are of an admirable quality —“ Some Election Memories,” by the Rt. Hon.
