THE EASTERN SUBURBS TEAM. WIIANGAREI. October 8. The Eastern Suburbs Rugby League team, of Sydn -y, opened its New Zealand tour this afternoon, when it defeated North Auckland by 23 points to 11. The visitors showed delightful combination, their passing being first class. The outstanding players were Hong (full-back > Brown (three-quarters), who made electro- rushes, and Norman (five-eighths), whose d termined running frequently smashed the defence In the forwards, who held th-'-ir own against a good pack, Pearce and Stehr were prominent. The Northland team did not play as well as in the representative fixtures this year The only try was scored by O‘Callaghan. a forward. Hami'te.n converted this and kicked three penalty goals. The first spell ended S points to 4 in favour of the visiters. EASY WIN FOR SYDNEY TEAM. A I TEL AND, October 11. The Eastern Suburb' (Sydney) League team outclassed Devonport by 41 points to 27. The visitors were superior ir every department, their combination beitm splendid. Devonport were the runners up for the Auckland championship and the winners of the knock out and champion of matches.
