THE RING.

BOEING WELTER-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. AN ABRUPT ENDING. WELLINGTON, August 20 A professional boxing contest for the welter-weight championship of the Dominion at the Winter Show Stadium tonight between Ted Morgan (Wellington) 10.6 J and Reg. Trowern (Auckland) had an abrupt termination in the second round. when the referee, Mr Earl Stewart, rushed in and hoisted Morgan’s right hand as a token of victory Trowern scored well with his right. Halfway through the second round Morgan landed a left hook which caught Trowern fairly on the point, and he followed this up with a left jolt to the jaw which further rattled the Aucklander. Trowern, keeping his bead, hung on like a limpet, and defied all Morgan’s efforts to shake him off. With only five seconds to go. to the surprise of everyone, the referee hoisted Morgan’s right hand. Trowern at once commenced to prance around the ring with both gloves raised to signify he was

anxious, and . willing. .to continue. A moderater-sized hou.se demonstrated against what they considered was an over-hasty act on the referee’s part in stopping at such an early stage what promised to be an exciting contest.

With reference to the wrestling bout stage.d by Kara Pasha and Stanley Pinto at Wanganui recently, the purse for which was held up pending a conference with the wrestling authorities in Wellington the Wanganui Association decided tonight that the purse be paid to the Do-

minion of New Zealand Wrestling Union to disburse at its discretion, under protest.

A -large audience witnessed the first professional wrestling bout in Blenheim between Limutkin (13.8) and Kara Pasha (12.2). The first round was even, both men showing a variety of holds. In the second the Turk was thrown three times with a headlock, but he evened up in good mat work. In the third round, after some struggling, Limutkin applied a crucifix, but Kara Pasha broke the hold, applying a short arm bar. The fourth round opened with fast work, and a lot of toe holds were applied. After seven minutes Kara Pasha clapped on his famous Boston Crab, getting a submission fall. Limutkin then announced that his thumb, which had been injured at Westport, had again been put out and he was unable to continue. BURMISTER DISQUALIFIED. GISBORNE, August 20. The wrestling match between Tom Alley and Sam Burmister was interesting while it lasted, but it ended in a disappointing manner. Towards the end of the second round Alley gained a fall with the crucifix, and Burmister evened this up with a fall in the fourth round by means of a body press. Early in the fifth round Burmister carried his opponent and dumped him over the ropes, and was warned. Immediately afterwards, however, he repeated the performance, and was disqualified. Alley appeared anxious to resume, but he was prevented from doing so by an injury to his shin.
