“The story of the loss of the ■Tahiti on August 15, 1930, between Wellington and San Francisco, takes rank with the most dramatic episodes of ocean travel, and is one in which all concerned adopted a truly British attitude as a natural response to the need,” states the annual report of the Wellington branch of the Marine ’ Engineers’ Institute. The report states that the finding of the Court of Inquiry won the approbation of all, and records that the emblem of the institute was presented to each of the Tahiti’s engineers in recognition of their meritorious service and bravery at sea.
