OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL
NORTH CANTERBURY BRANCH OLD BOYS’ ANNUAL REUNION. The North Canterbury branch of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Association held its annual reunion and general meeting in Ballantyne’s Tea Rooms, Christchurch, last week. In previous years a dinner had been held, but because the annual football match against Christ’s College was to be played in the afternoon, Monday’s gathering took the form of a luncheon, which served the purpose of assembling members just prioi to the game. For the same reason the reunioi. was held a few days earlier than usual. In other years it has been held on August 3, thj? school having been opened on that day 68 years ago. At Monday’s gathering 55 members were present, and the president (Mr J D. Hutchison) was in the chair. He extended a welcome to Mr R. W S. Botting, a master of the school, who had come to Christchurch with the Otago High School team. Hearty applause greeted the hope expressed by Mr Hutchison that the better team should win in the match that afternoon, and that the Otago boys should be able to carry the school’s colours to victory. Mr Botting, in reply, said the team was a very different one from that which had played last year. It included only three of the 1930 first fifteen. He endorsed the president’s hope that victory should go to the better side. He also conveyed to the gathering the cordia l greetings of the rector of the Otago Boys High School (Mr W. J. Morrell) and of another respected member of the schooi staff, Mr F. H. Campbell. These mes sages were received with loud applause. The president also mentioned that that day’s game was the forty-eighth annual match with Christ’s College, and that they had present with them Mr J. R. Montgomery, who had been a -member of. the. Otago team agains' Christ’s College in the first match played. Mr W. H. Price, of Wellington, also spoke, congratulating the association on the success of the reunion. He remarked that a reunion of old boys was to be held in Wellington next Saturday night. Resolutions of sympathy -were passed with the relatives of the late Mr J. G. Herdman, and with Mr J. M. B. Craw ford in the loss of his wife. Members stood in silence.
The annual report and balance sheet were adopted, and the following officebearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. M. B. Crawford; vice-presidents—Mr A. O. Wilkinson, Mr W. M. Maclean, and Dr T. Mill; com mittee —Messrs J. A. Brotherton, W. M Stewart, J. D. Hutchison. W. G. Coul), E. W. White, W. M. Malloch, M. C. Briekcll, L. B. Thompson, Dr R. H.
