—London’s Fire Brigade received some 2500 false calls a year, each of which costs about £l2. The driest July since 1926 was experienced last month at Oturehua (writes our correspondent), when only 71 points of rain fell. There was a good deal more wind than is usual for July, but otherwise the weather was mild and pleasant.
