OTAGO CLUJFs’rOAD RACE. The Otago Amateur Cycling Club held an 18-mile Road Race from Quirk’s Hotel Bay View road, to Broad Bay and back on Saturday for a trophy presented by Mr Quirk. Sixteen riders faced the

starter, Mr A. Ockwell, and set off against a cold head wind, the scratcn man, P. M'Connell, conceding o' minutes to the limit man. J. Taylor and A Rosenbrock came back to the 30 second! mark with A. Hay. A few miles after the start R. Blagdon (4-linin) and H .’unison, J. Nelson (omin) were-over-hauled by T. Mussen. F. Walker, H Mussen, W. Morgan, R. Baker, and N. Harwood, and this large bunch was making the pace hard. Further back Smart and Greenfield had shaken off M'Gregoi and were riding a great race together The field passed through Macandrew Buy in practically the same order. Harwood and Annison had been dropped, and M’Connell was riding a great race alone, slowly overtaking Hay, Taylor, and Rosenbrock. About a mile outside Broad Bay Smart and Greenfield had caught the frontmarkers, and a huge bunet. turned together and set off at a furious pace with the wind. M'Connell caught Hay, Taylor, and Rosenbrock just ai the turn, and these four riders teamed well, and were going in great style. In front the order had changed, and Nelson. Morgan, Smart, and Greenfield had opened up a large gap on their fellow riders, who were now well strung out. When the bitumen surface was reached the four in front had things all their own way, and closely followed by Baker they staged a good finish, in which D. Smart outsprinted J. Nelson, who was closely attended by F. Greenfield and Morgan. After Baker the backinarkers arrived, and Hay led Rosenbrock, Taylor and M’Connell in that order. The race was ably controlled by Messrs Johnston Ockwell, Fogarty, Stinson, and Milligan The following are the placings:—D. Smart 1, J. Nelson 2. F. Greenfield ”. W. Morgan 4, R. Baker 5, A. Hay 6, A. Rosenbrock 7, J. Taylor 8, P. M’Connell 9, T. Mussen 10, H. Mussen 11. PACIFIC CLUB’S RACE. The Pacific Cycling Club held an 18 mile Road Race over a course from Outram on Saturday. There was a field of 15 starters, which was satisfactory considering the severe cold. The limit men were sent away on their journey about 3.15 p.m. by the starter, Mr J. Wilson, to be followed 8j minutes later by the scratch men, Hetherington and Parsons About two miles out F. Beale crashed through striking a rider’s wheel, and was badly grazed. Next Cooper was picked up riding alone and tired, having been dropped by the backmarkers. Then Litolff had to retire owing to an injured ankle. At Allanton the limit men were holding their own and riding very well, and it was seen that the winner wo- ’d come from this bunch. So it proved, for in a fine finish Jackways beat Magee by half a length, with Miller close up third. Results:—C. Jackways (81mm) 1, H. Magee (7min) 2, Miller (Outram 8-jmin) 3. Fastest Times:—G. Hetherington (51min 30sec) 1, M. Beale (53min 0 2-ssec) 2, H. Magee (53min llseej 3.
