CHANGED HIS MIND
THE URGINGS OF CONSCIENCE AUCKLAND, June 15.
An unusual story of a man who planned to steal money but changed his mind when he got his hands on it was told in the Police Court to-day, when Robert Davidson, aged 29, a barman, pleaded guilty to unlawfully entering the Waverley Hotel with intent to commit a crime. The accused, who was formerly employed in the hotel, knew where the takings were kept, and after hiding in the lounge got into the bar early on Sunday morning. According to his statement to the police he then realised that it would be theft and that suspicion would fall on the nightporter, and also that he (the accused) would only spend the money on drink. On leaving he took a pair of shoes belonging to a guest. These he returned later. The accused was committed for sentence.
