A Maori from upriver, who makes a point of calling on his friends at the Wanganui Herald office when he visits the city, remarked to a reporter the other day that conditions were bad for the working man in New Zealand at present. Personally, he said, he was preparing some extra ground for potatoes and vegetables, and had come to arrange for a few move cows. “By so doing,” he remarked, “ I will have plenty then to keep my wife and family, and something extra to spare for my friends in need.”
