An extraordinary creature of far from pleasant aspect was found by an Invercargill fruiterer when unpacking a case of bananas from Fiji or Niue Islands. About five inches in length, tne insect, believed to be a tarantula scorpion, with a deadly sting, was still vigorously alive despite its long confinement in the case. It. had 40. legs, each pair attached to a scale-like joint in its reddish-brown body, and'the long sting projected about half an inch. The insect is said to live upon poisonous spiders, and its appearance certainly does not encourage indiscriminate handling.
