While skinning a calf which he had killed in a paddock on his father’s farm at Kaihere the other morning, Air Reg. Nelson (says the Auckland Star) was attacked by the mother of the calf and severely injured. He was knocked down and trampled upon, but before he lost consciousness he managed to crawl to a fence and roll out of further danger. A passing motorist noticed the man lying beside the road, but could not stop on the steep hill road, so he reported the matter to the Kaihere schoolmaster, who sent some children to investigate. When they arrived Mr Nelson was just regaining consciousness. He was removed to his parents' home in a neighbour’s car.
