IN CHARITY’S CAUSE.
CONTESTS IN SYDNEY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY. September 25. Youth will have its fling. A retited chemist, about 65 years of age, and living on the outskirts of the metropolis of Sydney, has challenged any of the local aidermen to a 220 yards hurdle race a bicycle race of any distance from five to 20 miles, a swimming race up to two miles, and a walking match of from 10 to 100 miles, in aid of the local distress fund. Daily he walks to and from the nearest town, a distance of four miles each way. The local Mayor, who happe is to turn the scales at 20st. is thinking of challenging the athletic chemist to a weightlifting competition.
Another aiderman, who competed successfully in A.I.F. boxing contests, is prepared to put on the gloves with the chemist, who says that, in sport, he fee’s about 16 years of age.
