STATEMENT BY SURVIVOR.
EXPLOSION FOLLOWS CRASH. LONDON, October 6. Foreman Engineer Leech, in a new statement, said the ship was weathering the storm well over Beauvais, and the engines were normal. Then suddenly the nose dipped, but the airship straightened out. Then she dipped again at an angle of 45deg, striking the hill. I counted a second or two between the crash and the explosion. This was followed by a sheet of flame. Personally 1 believe the explosion was the result of a breakage of the electric wires,” he said.
PRAYERS IN THE CHURCHES. LONDON, October 6. Prayers for the bereaved were offered throughout the churches last evening. The King and Queen joined the villagers nt special prayers in the parish church at Sandringham. The congregation at Westminster Abbey knelt in silence for three minutes. The dean said the disaster had stricken the whole country.
Messages of sympathy are pouring in from foreign Governments.
President Doumergue telegraphed to the King, and M. Tardieu (Prime Minister of France) and Dr Bruening (Germany) sent messages to Mr MacDonald. Sidky Pasha cabled from Egypt: “ Deeply moved.”
