“ I want to offer two suggestions,” said the chairman of the Parks Committee of the Auckland City Council (Mr J. B. Paterson), when opening the annual daffodil show conducted by the Auckland Horticultural Society the other afternoon. “ Some years ago children’s school gardens provided an interesting competition, and prizes •were awarded for the best work. This has been dormant for some years, and I suggest that a revival would encourage school children in growing both flowers and vegetables. Then Arbor Day is too little thought of, and I suggest that some interest should be shown by the Horticultural Society in order to revive it. We are proud of our many native trees, and particularly of our ferns.”
