THE CHRISTCHURCH FIRES.
ALLOCATION OF REWARD. WELLINGTON, September 17. The Minister of Justice (Mr J. G. Cobbe) announced to-day that it had been decided that the reward of £250, offered jointly by the council of the Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association of New Zealand and the State Fire Office in connection with the incendiary fires in Christchurch last year, will be paid to the members of the police force who were instrumental in securing the arrest and conviction of the offenders.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Commissioner of Police, Constable Gillum, who was primarily responsible for the result, will be paid £220, and the balance of £3O will be divided between the following members of the force who, subsequent to the arrest, obtained evidence which was presented to the court on the trial of the offenders: —Detective Sergeant Young, £9; Detective Findlay, £9; Acting Detective Halcrow, £9; Sergeant Harrison, £3.
