A romance is woven round a motor car accident in the Wanganui district. A farmer’s daughter had driven to the village on some business for her father. In dodging a dog that rushed out at the car, she swerved and struck a young man who was crossing the road at the time and knocked him down. He was severely bruised. The young lady, finding that he was a farm-hand out of work, took him to her home. Cupid evidently had a hand in sending that dog forth at the opportune time, for a marriage took place the other day, and the happy young man will remain permanently on the farm.
The straying of cattle in the Waipoua State Forest has become such a nuisance that the State Forest Service is calling for tenders for the purchase of all unbranded beasts rounded up in the forest confines. The offending animals have strayed from neighbouring farms, and, penetrating the heavy bush, are difficult to recapture. Motorists using the Waipoua Forest road have complained of animals grazing on the roadside, where they are a menace to passing traffic, so an attempt will be made to drive them out of the bush and dispose of all those not carrying brands.
