ILLEGAL SALE OF LIQUOR.

SLAUGHTERMAN FINED £6. INVERCARGILL, April 24. An unusual case was before the magis trate (Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) this morning, when Leslie George Hinton, a single man, aged 26, pleaded guilty to selling liquor at Makarewa without a license. The evidence disclosed "that defendant was employed at Makarewa Freezing Works as a slaughterman, and bought beer and whisky and retailed it to the men. He put the beer in whisky bottles and sold them at Is 9d each, and the whisky in flasks, which he filled three parts full, the remainder being water. These he sold at 10s. Senior Sergeant Fox said defendant was more foolish than- criminal. He was fined £6, the magistrate remarking that he would not treat the matter so seriously since accused was acting on the request of his workmates.
