THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
PARNELL BY-ELECTION.
ROUND OF PUBLIC MEETINGS. AUCKLAND, April 21. With polling day barely a fortnight away, interest is quickening in the Parnell by-election campaign. After the Easter respite all three candidates will resume their round of public meetings to-morrow evening. Mr W. P. Endean (Reform) will speak at the Public Works camp at Purewa, Air W. A. Donald (United) will be at St. Heliers, and Air T. Bloodworth (Labour) will meet the electors at Remuera. With equal zest each candidate is claiming that Parnell’s verdict will show the trend of the Dominion's political thought. In view of the unusual state of the parties in the House and the importance attached to the contest all three candidates will be supported on the platform by members of Parliament. The Minister'of Labour (Air W. A. Veitch) spent the greater part of last week in the electorate, an 1 the Deputy Leader of the Government (Air G. W. Forbes) will arrive in Auckland on Wednesday to speak in support of Air Donald. Efforts are also being made to secure further Alinisterial reim forcemeats as the campaign draws to a close.
It is anticipated that a prominent Reform member of Parliament will also figure in the campaign during the last week or so. The Leader of the Opposition (Air J. G. Coates) is at present in North Auckland, and it is considered probable that he will address the Parnell electors shortly before polling day on May 7.

Fraser (Labour member for Wellington Central) and Air W. Nash (Labour member for Hutt) are also announced to speak in support of Air Bloodworth toward the close of the contest.
