The sixty-eighth annual report of the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society states that 100 pheasants were liberated in the society’s district during the past year. Over a period of years many hundreds of birds have been liberated in selected localities, but there does not appear to be any increase in numbers. _t is doubtful if they are even holding their own. The report points out that the toll is due to the activities of vermin, and as long as the protection is maintained on stoats and weasels it appears as if the society will fight a losing battle.
