EMPIRE FARMERS.

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. ITINERARY OF THE TOUR. The following is an itinerary of the tour of the Empire farmers in Otago and Southland:—The British party will arrive at Auckland on February 24 by the Remuera. the Canadian party by the Aorangi on the same day, and the South Africans at Auckland on February 18 by the" Ulimaroa from Sydney. ' The leader of the British party, Mr Samuel R. Whitley, is a brother of the late Speaker of the House of Commons. He has farmed in Surrey for several years, has been a member of the British Dairy Farmers’ Association for about 36 years, and is connected with the Dairy Research Institute attached to the Reading Univ«.-sity. He will be accompanied "by Mrs Whitley. Other .members of the Barty will be:—

Alcock, Arthur Henry, Welling Hill Farm, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham; dairy and arable farming; for three years had a grain ranch in Montana, U.S.A. Bacon. Cridlan, John Joseph, Maisemore Park, Gloucester; well-known breeder of Aberdeen-Angus cattle; has judged at the Palermo show, Buenos Aires, and at the Chicago Grand International Show; will be accompanied by Mrs Cridlan. Crosher, John Francis, F.R.G.S., Melton Mowbray; well-known dairy farmer. Crump, William Edward, dairy farming in Sussex; chairman Rye Branch, National Farmers’ Union.

Curtis, William Thomas, Effingham, Surrey.—lnterested in Guernsey cattle and thoroughbred horses. Will be accompanied by Mrs Curtis and Mrs C. I. Curtis.

Tipper, Lawrence, M.R.C.V.S., Mosely, Birmingham; interested in poultry industry-; late principal of Messrs B. C. Tipper, veterinary chemical work, Birmingham.

Winfrey, Sir Richard, J.P., Castor House, Peterborough; member of Parliament for S.W. Norfolk, 1906-23, and for Gainsborough 1923-24; Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agri, culture 1(146-18. Will be accompanied by Lady Winfrey. Canharn, A., London, secretary of the British National Union; will ’ act as manager of the tour.

The details of the representatives from South Africa and Canada are not yet available. In the South African party there will be seven single women and 12 farmers and their wives, and in the Canadian party two married couples, one single woman, and one farmer.

The tourists will visit centres and townships in the North Island, and their Otago tour will start at Oainaru on Friday, March 14. At Oamaru they will be given a civic welcome, and will then visit Bushey Park, arriving there at about 3.30 p.m. They will be entertained at Bushey Park by‘.Mr J. A. Johnstone, and will come on to Dunedin by the second express. They will receive a civic reception at the Dunedin station.

The party will leave bv the 7.40 a.m. train next day for Central Otago. Luncheon will be served at Ranfurly, where the party will meet the local farmers. The journey will then be continued to Cromwell, where afternoon tea will be provided by the local farmers and the mayor will extend a welcome. The same night the party will be taken by motor cars to Pembroke, where they will stay the night. A start will be made next morning (Sunday) for Queenstown, and on Mom day the party will leave for Invercargill. _ Monday and Tuesday will be spent in the Southland district, and the party will return to Dunedin by the evening express on Wednesday. '

Imitations to their theatres have been extended to the party by the managements of the Empire and Regent Iheatres for the Wednesday night, and the visitors will also be entertained by private citizens.

On Thursday the visitors will be taken for a tour of the city, and thence to Waipori for lunch, under the auspices of the City Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Sheep Owners’ I ederation, the A. and P. Society, the Expansion League, and the local branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. A return to Dunedin will be made via the laieri, and the farms of Messrs J. W. Blair and John Young will be inspected. In the evening a social function is to be held in the Tudor Hall, at which the Mayor (Mr R. S.
