A girl's story of refusals by seven motorists to give her a lift when she was faced with a 10 miles walk in a rain storm at midnight has aroused indignation in Northants. The girl, aged 19, lives at Wellingborough, but will not consent to publication of her name. She states that she missed the last bus from Northampton, and commenced to walk in the expectation that a motorist would give her a lift. Only three of seven cars stopped, and one, driven by a man, had three empty seats. The driver said hiu wife would object to a strange girl riding in his car. One driver took a man who had also missed his bus, and left the girl standing in the road cold, wet through, and frightened. She made the whole journey in high-heeled court shoes.
