TRADE IN BRITAIN.
AUCKLAND, February 6. “ I am just making a tour to keep in touch with Empire affairs and also for the purpose of visiting various branches of the Empire Parliamentary Association,” said Captain J. G. Fairfax, ex-M.P. for the dual constituency of Norwich (England). on board the Tamaroa this morning. “Things are not very bright at Home,” he said. “ One could, honestly say that they are unsettled. The Hatry affair, combined with the American Stock Exchange collapse, is to a great extent responsible for much of what is happening economically at present. On the other hand, the shipping appears to be not quite so bad as it was. Trade in that particular direction seems to be picking up.”
Captain Fairfax, who is accompanied by Mrs Fairfax, was the Conservative member for Norwich during last Parliament. He and Mrs Fairfax are en route to Australia to visit relatives, but they will spend about five weeks in New Zealand.
