MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.

CHRISTCHURCH. February 8. On account of there being insufficient time in which to make arrangements, there will not be any formal ceremony in connection with the commencement of work on the construction of the South Island main trunk railway at Parnassus on Tuesday. Twenty-five married men have been selected to proceed to Parnassus on Monday, and they will make a start on the railway works on Tuesday morning. A further batch of 25 men will proceed to Parnassus on Wednesday.
