THE POLICE FORCE.
THINGS VERY SATISFACTORY. WELLINGTON, February 4. “ Generally speaking, I found things very satisfactory,” said the Commissioner of Police (Mr W. B. MTlveney) to-day when asked to comment on his recent tour of police stations in the North Island. Mr MTlveney returned to Wellington on Friday evening after an absence of 15 days. During that time he visited Wanganui, Ractihi, Tokaanu, Taupo, Rotorua, Putaruru, Cambridge, Hamilton, Auckland, Te Kuiti, Mokau, New Plymouth and other Taranaki towns, and Palmerston North. Travelling by motor, Commissioner MTlveney was able to make the trip ■with the minimum of delay. He inspected stations and equipment, and •when the men paraded before him he invited them to make suggestions and to bring to his notice any complaints they might have to make. “ I am very proud to say that, during the whole of the tour, I did not receive one single complaint.” Mr MTlveney has yet to visit the stations in Napier and Gisborne districts, and those in the South Island.
