EIGHTY YEARS OLD.

Mil A 1.1 1! ED NATHAN HONOURED. AUCKLAND. February 5. A unique presentation was made to-day to Mr Alfred Nathan, head of the film of L. D. Nathan ami Co., by the members of the Jewish congregation in Auckland, when he was asked to accept, on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, a handsome silver model of the Auckland Synagogue. The presentation was made on behalf of the congregation by the treasurer (Mr Claude 11. Moses),’ who apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Air Goldstein, who had gone to Wellington to officiate at the funeral of the Rev. Mr Pitkowsky. He said that Air Nathan had been the leader of Jewry not only in Auckland but also throughout New Zealand for many years. His father, Air David Nathan,’had laid the foundation stone of the Auckland Synagogue, and for the last 30 years Air Alfred Nathan had presided over the destinies of the congregation. The Jews in Auckland were proud of Mr Nathan’s leadership, and felt that he was an able and worthy representative of the faith. The model is a beautiful piece of workmanship. executed in oxidised Waihi silver. It stands upon a base of oak. 12 inches square, and the model building covers an area of nine inches by eight inches, standing about seven inches. There is an appropriate inscription.
