WELLINGTON, February 6. A return of the estimated population of New Zealand and dependencies and the mandated territory, published in the Gazette to-night, shows: Males. 789,3827; females. 755,748:—t0ta1. 1.545,130. The estimated population of New Zealand proper at December 31, 1929 (excluding Maoris) was 723,693 males and 695.239 females. The estimated Maori population was 34,809 males, and 31.853 females. The population of the North Island ie estimated at 952.584, including 63.735 Maoris, and of the South Island 533.01 V, including 2929 Maoris. The estimated population of Cook Islands. Niue, etc., was 14.451; Tokelau Islands, 999: and Western Samoa. 44,086.
