A Foxton resident anticipating that his gate would be removed on New Year’s Eve, removed and carefully hid it. as he had been put to considerable expense in recovering it the previous year (writes the Manawatu Standard’s Foxton correspondent). Judge of his surprise when, on ariemg the following morning, he found the gate back on its hinges and so securely wired that it will be practically impossible to remove it again. “ Keep cats and avoid pneumonia,” was the advice given by Dr E. Palier at a meeting of the French Academy of Medicine, held in Paris. The cat, he pointed out, was the deadliest foe of the mouse, which was one of the worst agents for v o, oi uu vdijeuiauy pneumonic microbes.
