GUILTY OF BIGAMY.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. AUCKLAND, January 9. A labourer named Owen Barber, aged 45, who comes from Christchurch, was committed for sentence in the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of bigamy. He admitted having, in October, 1909, married Alarion Thompson at Christchurch, and in September, 1928, having ♦gone through the marriage ceremony -with Roberta Florence Agatha Gardiner at Kawakawa. He told Aliss Gardiner he was a single man, and that his name was William Webster Cook. After admitting the offence Barber said to a sister of his first wife who had given evidence: “Give Airs Barber my sincere regrets for the sorrow that I have caused- her during my life. I was to blame in the first place by shielding a young woman, who had got into trouble, for which 1 was not to blame.” “ You can tell that to the judge,” said Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.
