An interesting story of a successful “ get-rich-quick ” scheme discovered by a naval officer, is told by Air A. Paterson, of Timaru (sayg the Post). It happened in a Alediterranean port some years ago, when the officer in question took a gold sovereign to be changed into small silver by a native money-changer. To the intense surprise of the naval man the silver received for the sovereign actually amounted to about 25 shillings. Realising that he was on what is commonly known as “ a good thing,” he immediately returned to his ship, drew a month’s pay, all in gold, and repeated the per« formance. Not wishing to lose such a good chance of making easy money the wily officer once again returned to the vessel and bought up every gold sovereign he could find on the ship—and sold each one for 25 shillings. The net profit on the afternoon’s work was somewhere in the vicinity of £4O!
