Some time ago the Otago Acclimatisation Society imported a number of chikkor, a fine high country bird, from India A number of these were liberated on Northburn Station, near Cromwell. A pair had drifted across to the town some time ago, and become quite at home on the grounds of a resident. In the spring they disappeared, but returned a few days ago with a fine double-figure clutch of strong, healthy-looking chicks. Theii presence, however, is not so constant as hitherto.
