FIRES.
DWELLING HOUSE DESTROYED. AUCKLAND, December 17. With his face scorched, O. Walker struggled from a blazing house at Mount Eden at 2 o’clock this morning, when his home was found in flames. He was the only occupant of the building, his wife being away on holiday. Fits pyjamas were singed, and he was scorched on the face and the chest. The house was ablaze from end to end when the fire brigade arrived. Walker owned the house, which was covered for £5OO in the Alliance office. The furniture was insured for £lOO in another office. SEVEN-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED. WELLINGTON, December 18. The seven-roomed residence of Mr C. A. Marquis, general manager of the Tern perance and General Insurance Company at 29 Orua street, Rona Bay, was totally destroyed by fire shortly after 4 o’clock this afternoon. The fire had a good hold by the time it was discovered, and nothing was able to be saved. It was later discovered that a dog had perished in the flames. No one was at home at the time of the outbreak, the cause of which is not known.' 'Jo insurances are available as yet.
