ANTE-DATING A LICENSE.

WELLINGTON. September 25. Lancelot Lewis John Eilers, a clerk in the employ of the City Corporation traffic office, was to-day committed to the Supreme Court for trial for allegedly forging and uttering a motor driver’s license by ante-dating it. Clifford James Thomas, for whom Eilers was alleged to have ante-dated the license because he was sorry for Thomas having been caught by the police when without a license, was similarly committed on a charge of forging and uttering the license. The magistrate (Mr E.-Page) said: “ It does seem to have been a good and stupid act on the, part of Eilers , to assist some one else.” . Police suspicions as to the validity of the license were aroused when it was noticed that though the license was dated September 7 the receipt for it was dated September 9. Bail was allowed at £25.
