RETURNED SOLDIERS.
MEETING OF EXECPUTIVE. A meeting of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association Executive was held on Tuesday evening in the clubrooms. Mr A. M’Hutcheon presided. The secretary reported that seven nominations for membership and one resignation had been received, while three deaths had to be recorded. The nominations were ■approved, and a resolution of sympathy carried with the relatives of the returned men who had died. The Social Committee reported that it had fully considered a suggestion to hold a reunion. The experience of the association in organising reunions in the past had not been satisfactory, and the committee did not think that a reunion at this time of the year would be successful. —The matter was discussed at some length, and it was then decided to hold a special meeting of the executive next Monday evening again to discuss the question of holding a reunion.
A circular was received from the New Zealand Returned Soldierr’ Association in regard to the repeal .»f legal protection afforded to assisted returned soldiers. The Dunedin Association was asked to give consideration to the following proposal:— That it be suggested to local associations that the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Associtaion should approve the repeal ol the legal protection afforded ex-soldiers in respect of the issuing of distress warrants against assisted returned soldiers on the grounds that it was interfering with the facilities for obtaining credit.— It was reported that the association had previously decided to agree to -the pro-’ posai.
Mr H. L. Paterson reported that 4!) men were now employed under the PoppiDay scheme, and that the following additional grants had been approved.—St. Kilda Borough Council £3O, Milton Borough Council £2O, Queenstown Borough Council £2O, Ocean Beach Domain Board £2O, Otago Hospital Board £25.
