No. 9. ‘‘Well that’s the limit!” exclaimed Teddy. Golly looked in the direction in which his chum was pointing. Over a rise in the ground there was crawling towards them the strangest object which so far had met their eyes. Can you imagine anything funnier than an elephant’s head on a caterpillar’s bodyl A centipede with 100 miniature elephant’s feet, I ask you. Fancy a corn on every toe —HELPI “ I d-d-d-do hope he’s f-f-f-friendly,” stammered Golly, his teeth chattering. ‘‘l wonder where he’s g-g-going,” answered Teddv. ‘‘You’d better g-go a b-bit closer, and see if his t-t-t-tunk’s labelled!” The “ EJephantapillar ” —for that was its name—must have heard Teddy’s little joke about his trunk, for he suddenly swung round, and came crawling towards them. Teddy was too terrified to move, and Golly nearly turned pale with fright! The creature seized poor Teddy by the back of the neck with thd tip of his trunk, and the Chums thought that their end had come. Then the strange beast put Teddy gently down and burst into laughter.: He was only having his little joke! (To be Continued.)
