The promisee of James Smith, Ltd., Wellington, were entered on the night of February 23. The nightwatchman found a pane of glass missing at the rear when on his roufids about 10 p.m. The police made a thorough search, but found no one on the premises. It is thought that a considerable quantity of ladies’ and men’s wearing apparel lias been taken, but the exact amount has not yet been ascertained. In the Magistrate’s Court at Eltham on Wednesday George Espiner, of Rowan, was charged with the theft octrees valued at £3O from the Egmont National Reserve. He was fined £2O and ordered to make restitution of £l5 to the Park Board, with costs (£6 19s), in default two months’ imprisonment. Security for appeal was fixed at £l5 15s.
