STATE ADVANCES.

WELLINGTON, February 28. In regard to advances to settlers and workers, the Prime Minister (Sir J. G. Ward) stated to-day that from December 10 to February 27 the sum of £1,235.765 was authorised, comprising 619 applications by settlers and 598 by- workers. The actual amounts paid over during the period were £413,175 to 311 settlers and £358,975 to 409 workers. The applicants concerned in the balance of the £1,235,765 have been advised that money is available, and will be paid over in due course. Since December 10 new loan moneys amounting to £1,166,850 have been added to the canital of the State Advances Office? These facts, the Prime Minister added, showed that there had been no delay on the part of the State Advances Office in giving effect to the Government’s policy-.
