CHARGE OF BOOKMAKING.

AUCKLAND, March 2.

An hour or two after his arrest this morning on a charge of bookmaking Robert Francis Singe, employed as a wharf labourer, appeared in the Police Court before Mr W. R. M'Kean, S.M., and pleaded guilty. The police said that Singe was in business in a very small way, and had £l4 Ils 4d on him when arrested. He was a married man with two children, and had been obliging clients for the last three months. He was not making a living out of bookmaking, and had promised to give it up. Mr M'Kean: Yes, I expect he has when he finds it expensive. A fine of £l5 was imnosed.
