WEST COAST MINES.
TROUBLE AT DOBSON AND BLACKBALL.
GREYMOUTH, February 26. A stoppage occurred to-day at both the Dobson and Blackball mines.
At Dobson this occurred through a shortage of trucks, said to be due to a defective mine roadway which was closed last evening. Later a deputy sent three of the truckers home. The union held a stop-work meeting this afternoon, and asked that the truckers should be paid fr their shift. and decided that the afternoon shift would not go down till a settlement was effected. At Blackball the dispute is due to the company’s refusal to recognise the “ turn ” system in taking on employees. This difference is likely to be settled to-mor-row.
The Liverpool State miners, who have been losing much more time during the past 15 months than the men -at other mines owing to a lack of orders and other causes, are asking the Government for an 1 quiry as to the reason why the sales of Slate coal are not better.
