LAKE COITNTY.

February 28.—The weather continues warm, and rain would be welcomed.

Queenstown Regatta.—The annual meeting of the Queenstown Regatta Club was held on Thursday evening last, when there was a good attendance, Mr L>. J. Lynch (president) occupied the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £5 Is 4d. The following office-bearers were elected : —Patrons—Mr H. Mackenzie, sen., Major Acland, Messrs A. F. Hawke, M.L.C., W. A. Bodkin. M.P., J. T. N. Grant, R. M. Paterson, R. Acton-Adams, P. Reid, and R. A. Anderson; president, Mr L. J. Lynch (reelected) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. F. Macdonald (re-elected) ; 50 vice-presi-dents were elected, and the following were appointed an executive committee :—Messrs J. Thomson, sen., H. Tomkies, T. Davidson, T. Rutherford, W. D. Warren, and H. C. Buckham. Other officials elected were :— Auditor, Mr F. Stoop ; starter, Mr E. V. Fairburn ; umpire, Mr R. Caffin ; judges—Messrs H. C. Buckham, A. E. Bryant, and W. Nelson. It was decided that the annual regatta be held on Easter Saturday, March 30, and last year’s programme was adopted with the addition of a local boat race it sufficient entries are forthcoming. Death.—The death occurred at Dunedin on. Thursday last of Mrs Mackenzie, wife of Mr Alexander Mackenzie, of Mount Nicholas Station, Lake Wakatipu. Early in January Mrs Mackenzie gave birth to a daughter, and during her convalescence she contracted pleurisy. She appeared to be making good progress towards recovery, but on Thursday morning she collapsed, and despite medical aid, which was summoned immediately, she never rallied. The late Mrs Mackenzie was born in Invercargill, being the youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. 11. Mathieson. Some 13 years ago she was married to Mr Mackenzie, and had resided at Mount Nicholas ever since. Of a kindly disposition she was respected and esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves her husband and family of four little girls (the youngest only a few weeks old) to mourn their loss. The deepest sympathy prevails tor the bereaved ones. The interment, which was private, took place in the Anderson s Bay Cemetery on Saturday morning. Personal.—Mr A. H. Cooke, manager of the Queenstown branch of . the Bank of New Zealand, and Mrs Cooke left Queenstown on Monday last for Christchurch on a month's holiday leave. During Mr Cooke’s absence Mr W. Harper, of the Queenstown office, will be acting manager.—The funeral of the late Mrs James Webb took place at Arrowtown on Friday last, and was very largely attended. The services at the residence and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. M. Jackson.

General.—A party of railwaymen arrived in Queenstown on Saturday evening. They were Messrs S. E. Fay, operating and equipment assistant: P. R. Angus, chief mechanical engineer ; H. Valentine, chief accountant; and H. Green, assistant divisional superintendent (Christchurch). They were on special departmental business, and on Monday the party went to the Head of the Lake. On their return to Queenstown the same evening they were joined by Mr J. Pickard, district traffic manager, Invercargill. at a conference on important business affecting the lake service. It is rumoured that the question of another steamer for Lake Wakatipu, to replace the Mountaineer, is occupying the attention of the railway department.
