SUPREME COURT.

PRISONERS SENTENCED. AUCKLAND, February. 18. In the Supreme Court to-day the following sentences were imposed by Mr Justice Blair:—Ray Gordon Capef, two years’ detention in a Borstal Institute for breaking and entering; Edward Charles Sadler, two years’ imprisonment with hard labour for indecent assault on a boy; James Antona Wallingford Fleming, 12 months’ imprisonment for receiving; Bertie John Christian, two years’ imprisonment, with hard labour, for breaking and entering; Kenneth Malcolm M'Donald one year’s reformative detention for receiving. NAPIER, February 22. In the Supreme Court to-day, William Charles Neville, for indecent assault on boys, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, and Ernest Arthur Smoothy, for indecent assault on a girl, to two years’ imprisonment. James Humphreys, for perjury, received three months’ hard labour; James Maxwell, for theft, reformative treatment for two years; Dan Harry, for assault, three months’ imprisonment; Patrick Doran, for the theft of beer, was placed on probation for two years.

INVERCARGILL, February 20. In the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice MacGregor, the following prisoners were sentenced:—Leslie Allen Brewer breaking and entering and theft, was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution, to take out a prohibition order, and to come up for sentence if called upon xv ithin the next two years; Jamesena Yeads Spiers and Henry Hn/ley M'Nally, issuing valueless cheques, were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment ; Frank Auld, aged 28, carnal knowledge, received IS months’ imprisonment; and James Barton, carnal knowledge and indecent assault, was ordered to be detained for two years for reformative purposes.
