VISITING WARSHIP.
H.M.S. Laburnum, which berthed at Dunedin on Thursday afternoon, left Lyttelton at 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning and experienced a very comfortable trip to Dunedin—a decided and welcome contrast with what was met with between Auckland and the Canterbury port. The Laburnum will stay at Dunedin until March 1, when she will sail for Timaru. From the latter port she will go to Paterson's Inlet, then to Dusky Sound, Milford Sound, Nelson, Pieton, and Wellington, returning to Auckland about the end of April.
Commander P. W. Allwood is still in command of the vessel, and has associated with him the following officers:— Lieutenant - commander O’Culloghan, Lieutenant M. Richmond, Lieutenant H. G. de Chair, Surgeon-lieutenant F. C. Quinn, Commander-gunner W. J. S. Soper, Commander-engineer H. M. Thomas.
The movements of the other warships have -also been decided, and it is now known that the Veronica will not be calling at this port. Her itinerary will take her from Westport on March 6 to Paterson’s Inlet, where she will be meeting the other warships. The Diomede is timed to arrive at Dunedin on March 2, and she will be here until March 11. From here she will go to Stewart Island, calling at Bluff, the Sounds, Timaru, Nelson, and several North Island ports on the return journey. The exact dates of the Dunedin’s visit are not yet to hand, but it is probable that she will be in his port about the end of March or the beginning of April.
